(A Critique of your Proposal)

This in-depth review of your book proposal (table of contents, synopsis, and first three chapters) will provide a copy edit and constructive feedback on structural strengths and weaknesses related to voice, consistency, coherence, organization, audience, message, research, use of clichés or jargon, and formatting. It will also identify grammatical issues. The feedback will be presented in tracked changes or as a hard-copy markup, with additional commentary, suggestions, and recommended resources provided in a separate editorial letter. All changes to your proposal will be visible and reversible.

Please ensure that the proposal is no longer than 60 pages, inclusive. Independent of the proposal, please include any marketing/platform information, not to exceed 10 pages. The price includes two follow-up emails.

(A High-level, Structural Evaluation of Your Manuscript)

This in-depth evaluation of your entire manuscript will provide high-level feedback and recommendations, and is suggested for works-in-progress that are nearly finished, but need some refining. Please include the synopsis and any additional material, such as the table of contents, acknowledgements, foreword, index, endnotes, bibliography, glossary, maps, author’s note, other front or back matter, and any marketing/platform information.

I will review structural strengths and weaknesses related to flow, voice, consistency, coherence, organization, audience, message, research, use of clichés or jargon, continuity, information gaps or redundancies, leaps of logic, and formatting.

Although this is an evaluation rather than an edit, it will include some high-level fact-checking and will identify global grammatical issues, as well as granular issues such as ambiguity, repetition, sentence structure, non-sequiturs, passive voice, and others. My feedback will be presented as comments in the document, with additional commentary, suggestions, and recommended resources provided in a separate editorial letter. No editorial changes will be made to your manuscript.

This includes one 20-minute follow-up telephone discussion, if needed, and three follow-up emails.

(A Developmental, Substantive Evaluation and Edit of your Manuscript)

This in-depth evaluation of your entire manuscript will provide granular, detailed feedback and recommendations, and is suggested for manuscripts that are ready for submission to an editor or for self-publication. Please include the synopsis and any additional material, such as the table of contents, acknowledgements, foreword, endnotes, index, bibliography, glossary, maps, author’s note, other front or back matter, and any marketing/platform information.

I will review structural strengths and weaknesses related to flow, voice, consistency, coherence, organization, continuity, pace, audience, message, research, information gaps or redundancies, leaps of logic, overwriting, missed opportunities, reliance on clichés or jargon, and formatting.

This evaluation also includes moderate, high-level fact-checking and a first-pass copy edit to identify and correct grammatical issues and provide suggestions regarding issues such as ambiguity, sentence structure, passive voice, word choice, non-sequiturs, repetition, wordiness, and deadwood. My feedback will be presented in tracked changes with additional commentary, suggestions, and recommended resources in a separate document. All changes to your manuscript will be visible and reversible.
